Introduction:
An active overland journey of impressive proportions combining big game viewing in South Africa and Zambia, exploration in Mozambique and relaxation on tropical shores and Rift Valley lakes. From the gamelands of Kruger to the mighty Victoria Falls, this a journey of unforgettable contrasts.
Kruger National Park & Indian Ocean: We begin in South Africa with a drive through the dramatic Mpumalanga area to the huge gamelands of the Kruger National Park. Here we hope to see the 'Big Five' as well as some excellent birdlife. A little-used crossing on the east side of Kruger takes us into Mozambique and over the Limpopo River to the tropical coast. Making our way up the stunning Indian Ocean shoreline we pause at Inhambane, Vilanculos and Savane Bay and enjoy a choice of activities including kayaking, snorkelling and dhow safaris - or just relaxing on beautiful beaches.
Mozambique and Lake Malawi: Turning inland we head north and cross the mighty Zambezi as it courses its way from Zambia via Victoria Falls to the Mozambique channel. Continuing through Mozambique's remote northwest we finally reach the southern border of Malawi. We head to the tranquil shores of Lake Malawi, a huge inland sea carved out by the Great Rift Valley, where tropical freshwater fish can be seen in their natural habitat. Here we can relax, swim or perhaps enjoy a boat trip to secluded islands.
South Luangwa & Victoria: Falls Continuing north we reach Zambia's premier National Park, South Luangwa. Noted for its high concentration of game, the park is also ideal for foot safaris - one of the best ways of observing animals in their natural domain. The park is also noted for its variety of habitats - from shaded mopane woodland to lagoons and the fertile banks of the Luangwa River.
After a brief look at Lusaka we drive south to Livingstone, the adventure capital of Zambia. We'll visit the raging 'Smoke that Thunders', Victoria Falls, and there is time to raft the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi, take an elephant back safari in search of White Rhinoceros, or perhaps a scenic flight over the falls.
