ACTIVITY HOLIDAYS IN GREECE |
|
Greece is a fascinating country to visit and a great destination if you're looking for an active holiday. 700 BC onwards saw the evolution of the great ancient states centred on their respective cities of Athens, Corinth, and Sparta.
Frequently at war, the conflicts between them have provided the wonderful ancient legends of heroes and daring deeds which give this country and its 1400 islands such magical qualities.

The heritage created during this period expressed through literature, philosophy, art and politics still resonate down through the ages and indications of its original grandeur can be most easily seen at sites such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Minoan city of Knossos in Crete.
Greece became independent from the Turkish Ottoman Empire in 1830 and ever since then there have been tensions existing in the relationships between the two countries with the partition of Cyprus into North and South being one of the major problems to be resolved. With Greece now in the EU and Turkey going through the process of joining, many of the problems between the two countries will be resolved in due course. |

Many of our travel partners run wonderful beach clubs and flotilla sailing operations which allow the Greek islands and coastline to be explored as a truly leisurely pace. Sailing conditions in Greek waters tend to be quite benevolent with a relatively predictable wind patterns, deep waters and minimal tide hence Greece is a popular place for people wanting to improve their sailing ability or even learn to sail a yacht for the first time.
