Elephant trekkingOver the last 20 years the tourist industry within Thailand has gone from strength to strength. Visitors flock to Thailand from all over the world and even though the country was significantly damaged by the 2004 tsunami it has bounced back in a dramatic way.

Thailand is often a first stop for backpackers looking to journey overland through Southeast Asia but also offers a wonderful range of activities for adventure travellers.

Boat on Thai beachThe population of Thailand stands at over 60 million people and over 90% of these are Buddhists. The unifying influence of Buddhism can be seen in every town and village where saffron robed monks and characteristically tiered temples are a common sight.

The beaches of Thailand’s eastern and southern coasts are some of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia and although some are now dominated by facilities for young Western tourists, these can be easily avoided if desired.

Although the well-established tourist industry tends to be concentrated in and around Bangkok, come inland and therer is an abundance of historical and cultural interest and wonderful jungle landscapes.

There are a wide range of activity holidays in Thailand which cover everywhere from Bangkok to the still primitive hill tribe villages in the northern highlands. The Thai people have a well justified reputation for being overwhelmingly friendly and Thai food is just wonderful.
